Why every event at TOGETHER supports James' Place
Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. It exists to say one thing clearly: suicide can be prevented. It felt like the right day to talk properly about our partnership with James’ Place, and what it makes possible.
James’ Place supports men in suicidal crisis. Their service is free, quick to access, and delivered by professional therapists who work with each man over around two months, helping him understand his crisis, work through it, and find hope for the future.
Every event at TOGETHER supports James’ Place. For every delegate who walks through our doors, we make a donation to the charity. It’s built into how we operate, not added on top, so every meeting, dinner and conference held here quietly contributes to work that saves lives.
In their words
In July, after our most recent donation, Alex Abberton, Fundraising Manager at James’ Place, wrote to us. We wanted to share part of that letter, including the words of one of the men they’ve supported:
“We wanted to write and thank you for your wonderful support of James’ Place and particularly for your very generous donation. The ongoing support from you and your team at TOGETHER is so meaningful and we are hugely grateful.
I would like to share a quote from one of the men we have worked with recently:
‘I can honestly say that without the help from James’ Place, I wouldn’t be sitting here now telling you of my experience. The professionalism and empathy that my therapist showed towards me when I was in a place that I never knew I could get to was on another level. And I really hope that any man who has suffered like I did, doesn’t give up hope. The staff at James’ Place are magnificent in the role they do, and I’m truly grateful they were there for me and pray they are there for years to come to support the people who need it.’
Many of the men we support say that if James’ Place had not been open, and without an appropriate service available to them, they may not have survived. Your donation will enable us to work with more men who are in suicidal crisis, providing our free and quick to access service to them. They will work with our brilliant professional therapists over around two months to help them understand their crisis, work through it and find hope for the future. We couldn’t provide this service without the generosity of those such as yourselves. Your support is truly lifesaving.”
We don’t have much to add to that. It’s why the partnership exists.
What’s next
Next summer, we’re hosting the James’ Place Fundraiser at 88 Wood Street: an evening for 200 guests with a drinks reception, a three-course dinner, a live auction and a fireside conversation, all in aid of the charity. The night is currently invite-only, and every element is designed to do two things: raise awareness of James’ Place, and raise the funds that keep their doors open.
To date, our events have raised a significant contribution for James’ Place, and next summer’s event is just the beginning.
